Every Journey Starts Small
Every meaningful journey starts somewhere small.
For Nathan Koehler, it didn’t begin in a stadium packed with thousands or under bright professional lights. It began in Augusta, Georgia, with a small club, big dreams, and a willingness to bet on himself when no one else was watching.
That decision to start where he was, with what he had, would shape everything that followed.
An Opportunity Earned
Nathan’s path took a pivotal turn when Steve Richards recognized not just his ability, but his mindset. That belief opened a door few American players ever walk through.
Nathan was recruited to the Steven Gerrard Academy in Liverpool, a proving ground rooted in the culture, intensity, and tradition of English football.
There, he didn’t just play the game. He learned it.
Built in the English Game
From the academy environment, Nathan earned opportunities with Marine FC and later Prescot Cables FC, a supporter-owned club in Merseyside competing in the Northern Premier League.
Over three seasons in English non-league football, Nathan built a reputation as a tough, reliable, left-footed center-back who embraced responsibility.
His résumé speaks for itself:
69 appearances. 9 goals.
Goals scored in the FA Cup, FA Trophy, Northern Premier League, and Liverpool Senior Cup, including a goal on his club debut in the FA Cup.
But what mattered most wasn’t the stats.
It was the consistency. The resilience. The understanding that football, at its core, is about community, accountability, and showing up every day ready to work.
The Next Step: Chattanooga FC
Now, that journey takes its next significant step.
On March 14, 2025, Chattanooga Football Club announced the signing of Nathan Koehler to a one-year contract, with a club option for an additional year. A player shaped by global experience, grounded in humility, and ready for the next challenge.
“Nathan gives us even more tactical flexibility across a backline with immense experience and talent,” said CFC Technical Director Sebastian Giraldo. “He has been outstanding during his extended trial, and he fits the culture and style of soccer we want to play.”
Head Coach Chris Nugent echoed that belief, highlighting Nathan’s intelligence, composure, and natural defending ability both in the air and on the ground.
More Than a Contract
For Nathan, this moment is about more than a contract.
It’s about belonging.
“I am absolutely buzzing to get going with the season at CFC,” Koehler said. “I’ve already had a taste of what the fans are like with preseason, and the atmosphere they create is truly special.”
After three years in the heart of English non-league football, Nathan understands the value of playing for something bigger than yourself.
“Those experiences taught me what football is really about in the community,” he shared. “I can’t wait to have my own part to play in the Chattanooga community this season.”
A Journey of Significance
From Augusta, Georgia, to Liverpool, from non-league grounds to Finley Stadium, Nathan Koehler’s journey is a reminder of what’s possible when character leads, and opportunity meets preparation.
This isn’t an overnight success.
It’s earned Significance.
And the journey is just getting started.
